DG Schools meeting

A meeting of the Directors General for Schools will be held on 13 and 14 March 2018 in Sofia. The event will take place within the framework of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in collaboration with the European Commission. This meeting is traditionally held during every Presidency and brings together Directors in charge of pre-school and school education of all Member States as well as one expert in these fields from each Member State.

During the meeting in Sofia the results of the activities of the Working Group on Schools within the Education and Training 2020 Programme for the period 2016-2018 will be presented to the Directors General for Schools. The mandate and topics on which the working group will focus will be discussed, such as career and professional development of teachers, evaluation models, transparency and mobility, quality management, data collection and analysis, etc.

The mandate for the period 2016-2018 of the new Working Group on Early Childhood and Education will also be presented. It will focus on the problems of social inclusion, provision of access to education and care from early childhood and definition of indicators for quality measurement of pre-school educational systems.

Part of the plenary discussions will be dedicated to the vision of the European Education Area by 2025 and the place of school education therein, with an emphasis on language learning, mutual recognition of diplomas and studying abroad, and on quality of education and care from early childhood.
