577 CLASSROOMS FOR HUMANITIES UNDER THE MES PROGRAMME HAVE BEEN RENOVATED

During this academic year, 577 classrooms in the field of humanities were renovated under the National Programme “Ensuring a Modern, Safe and Accessible Educational Environment”. In the specialized classrooms, children are trained to acquire key competencies in this field.

With funding from the programme, schools have purchased textbooks for learning foreign languages, fiction, collections and dictionaries, wall maps, boards and atlases, portraits of revolutionaries and writers, etc. In order to create a pleasant and stimulating environment for learning, the classrooms are furnished with thematic photo wallpapers, tailored to the studied subject, with themed student desks.

The renovation of the specialized rooms is part of the first edition of the module “Modern environment for quality education in humanities, arts and sports” of the national programme. The budget for the activities under this module is close to BGN 10 million. It also finances the creation or renovation of rooms for activities of interest, as well as the furnishing and holding of events in school libraries.

This year, 177 schools and Centers for special educational support have new rooms for work on interests, which benefit more than 17,000 students. Rooms are equipped with drawing supplies, encyclopedias and dictionaries, educational games and experiment kits, props for role-play and drama/puppet theater, fiction, and more.

For another year, schools are showing interest in creating or renovating school libraries or reading corners and conducting initiatives in them. In addition to renovation with new literature and suitable furniture, the educational institutions have organized exhibitions of drawings based on works of art, anniversaries of notable personalities in Bulgarian literature and culture, dramatizations of favorite fairy tales and poems, talks on current topics for students, etc.

The aim is to make libraries and reading corners places to encourage thinking, imagination and creativity as part of the learning process. There are 331 schools with new school libraries or reading corners, and 1,233 initiatives that are also funded under the programme.

A total of 642 schools were supported to build a modern environment for quality education in humanities, arts and sports. One of them is the Vocational High School “Zachariy Stoyanov” with teaching of Western languages in Sliven, which has a reading corner and an art center (pictured). The newly created center at the school has become the “host” of the presentation of prestigious certificates of the University of Cambridge.
